The Best Flour Sack Towels

Simple...Useful...Beautiful

Greetings from beautiful Northern California...

Redwood country is home base for RUSHdesign, a family-owned and operated small business.

Visit us at http://www.rushdesignretail.com/. Wholesale accounts welcome: please visit rushdesign.com to view designs and terms.

RUSHdesign represents beautiful, original art that is displayed on flour sack towels...

RUSHdesign was born in the early 1980's when its founder became interested in a silk screening class offered near her home in the Santa Cruz Mountains. As her first project, she created the image of a Dala Horse, a traditional Scandinavian wooden toy from Dalarna, Sweden, a symbol of her family's heritage. This screenprint was first used to make colorful pot holders, which were taken into a store by her mother. The store placed an order and RUSHdesign was in business!

We began by selling to, and supporting small boutiques and gift shops around the country, offering exclusively to them, a product that was charming, inexpensive and which sold quickly. More significantly, it developed into a business that would flourish, and allowed the new entrepreneur to stay home with her children as they grew.

Old Friends Are Sometimes the Best...

How to incorporate the quality and charm of a bygone era into a new and marketable product? It's our Grandmother's old friend - the Flour Sack Towel!
The homemakers of yesteryear cherished their used flour sacks and transformed them into everything imaginable: quilts, aprons, dresses, baby clothes, sunbonnets, undergarments, even bathing suits!

Real flour & feed sacks

Technology has not been able to improve upon the qualities of the old-fashioned flour sack towels: their absorbency, their ability to make glassware and dishes sparkle, their durability. The company soon decided to segue into the specific category of kitchen linens, as it became evident that this product was the most appealing to consumers.

The Original Flour Sack Towel!

Our Flour Sack Towels soon blossomed into beautiful works of art, as it was discovered we could inspire our family of artists to draw, watercolor, and dream their pictures onto the soft cloth.

Most of our design ideas come from collaborations between the Rushes, our extended family, the shopkeepers and our customers. We always encourage our merchants and customers to approach us with designs they'd like to see.
RUSHdesign was one of the first to offer these original designs on 100%-cotton towels, which are printed with environmentally-safe, lead-free inks on a generous size of 38" x 22".

RUSHdesign Today

Over the years, the business office has moved from the Santa Cruz hills, to Hawaii, then to Southern California. We are now based in the Northern California cities of Trinidad and Eureka, the heart of Redwood Country.

Today, our line is carried in over 800 kitchen shops, nurseries and garden centers, country and folk shops, museums, and specialty shops across the US.

RUSHdesign towels (and their owners) enjoy the distinct quality of our printing and curing process; the colors are fade-resistant, even after many years of regular use, washing in the machine with whites (bleach ok), and drying in the machine as well. Hanging to dry outside on a line helps to preserve color quality even longer; saves on energy costs and consumption; and brings nostalgic thoughts to mind as they flow with the breeze.

Our customers use these towels in their homes much the same way as our grandmothers did -as curtains, place mats, pillowcases, bags and sachets, children's clothing, gift wrap, and of course, in the kitchen.

RUSHdesign towels can be used in so many creative ways. Please share your stories with us!

Go Green

REDUCE & REUSE: we can avoid adding paper towels, used wrapping paper, and plastic or paper bags to landfills by reusing cloth and reusable materials.
Introducing RUSHdesign's vinyl tote bags! They are built to last through years of shopping, family outings, or any use that requires a durable, stylish, voluminous tote bag. We've all heard the question, "Would you like paper or plastic?" Now your answer can always be an emphatic (but friendly), "NO THANK YOU"...

These are a limited-quantity item that is available on our retail website, http://www.rushdesignretail.com/.

We are grateful to all of our customers, and thank them wholeheartedly for their patronage; they've truly made us what we are today.
At RUSHdesign, we are intent on carrying out the same kind of legacy in our business as is exemplified in our product: Quality, Beauty, Longevity, Integrity. We hold these values up as a commitment to you, our customers, and old dear friends.
